This is a very quick Xcode tutorial to show you how to create a new Single View Application in Xcode. This tutorial is using Xcode 8+ and has been created to help those who have never used Xcode before. A lot of our Swift Tutorials require this step.

What is Xcode?

Xcode is an integrated development environment (IDE) containing a suite of software development tools developed by Apple for developing software for macOS, iOS, WatchOS and tvOS.

Getting Started

The first thing you need to do is open Xcode. You will then be presented with the welcome screen that will give you options. For this, we need to click start new Xcode Project:

Once you have done this, you will be taken to this option screen:

New Xcode Options

Select: Single View Application and click the Next button.

Now you will be presented with another dialogue screen which is where you will specify the details about your application:

Enter in the details you wish. For most of our Swift Tutorials you can specify anything. However for production apps make sure that you use consistent naming. After you have specified your details. Click Next. You will then be asked to save the project somewhere.
I like to have a development folder where I store all my test babies in.

Finally click Create once you have specified your save location and voila. You have just created a new Single View Application in Xcode. Hooray.
